This Video speaks to the importance of a well structured resume - and, the need to use Bullet points as opposed to paragraphs.
Important Points to Remember:
- One of the best ways to format a resume is with the use of Bullet Points - as opposed to Prose and the associated sentences
- Make sure you include the Name of the Company or Organization for which you worked, what it does, your title and what you did
- Include your major accomplishments in bullet point format
- Start each accomplishment with an ACTION VERB - examples are: Developed, Implemented, Designed, Trained among others (see a more complete list click HERE )
- Be specific with each point. Include details such as Numbers or Percentages. If you saved your company $5million with something you did, include the $5 million in the bullet point
- Make sure you can back up the specific details during an interview
- Be able to "TALK" your resume. You need to be able to speak intelligently about everything on your resume.
One thing NOT in the video is that your bullet points should speak to CARS. That means each should include:
- the "Challenge" - what caused you to take the action
- the "Action" taken - what did you do (at a high level)
- the "Result" - what happened as a result of your action
Keeping CARS in mind will help you build your bullet point.
